Biodiesel: Sustainable
Fuel of the Future

Sarasota County is considering the use of biodiesel, a diesel fuel made from soybean oil, as a fuel alternative for county buses and heavy-duty vehicles. Biodiesel works in any diesel engine with few to no modifications and reduces pollutants and particulate matter by up to 30%. This renewable, low-toxic fuel is a safe and healthy alternative to "dirty" petroleum diesel.

Sustainable Sarasota has gathered extensive research on the use of biodiesel in municipal fleets across the U.S. and Sarasota County has an annual contract for the purchase of biodiesel fuel.  Please browse the links below to learn more about this exciting new fuel.

What is Biodiesel?
Biodiesel is a clean-burning bio-based fuel that can be utilized in the modern diesel engine.
