Leaders in Environmentally Preferable Purchasing

The U.S. Federal Government recognizes Environmentally Preferable Purchasing (EPP) and defines it in Executive Order 13101 as:

“ Products or services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment when compared with competing products or services that serve the same purpose. This comparison may consider raw materials acquisition, production, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, reuse, operation, maintenance, or disposal of the product or service.”

Across the country, local, state and federal government offices are developing Environmentally Preferable Purchasing policies and programs. Sarasota County is a national leader in the green purchasing movement.
